About SDHA

History

Since its inception in 1951 and until 2004 the organization was known as the Sidmouth & District Hotel and Caterers Association

The first President of the Sidmouth and District Hotels and Caterer's Association was Mr M J Roberts

The association was formed so that all hotels and guesthouses could operate to an agreed standard.

In order to join members had to agree to their establishment being inspected by two members of the Committee. They could also gain a grading by joining the A.A or RAC star rating system. All establishments were therefore always inspected before being allowed to join. The Association consisted of a President, Vice President or Presidents, plus 6 committee members, including one from a self-catering section.

In 2004 It was agreed by consensus that the association rules and set up required an overhaul.

It was decided that a wider membership should be encouraged to join from all areas involved in hospitality. Thus Caravan Parks, self-catering companies and Restaurants were actively encouraged to join our newly named organization, Sidmouth and District Hospitality Association

Our Aims

To ensure standards, we require members, where applicable, to comply with all Statutory Obligations and Legal Requirements placed upon them by Law and to act in a professional manner. Membership of the association conveys solidarity with others trading in our industry throughout the valley and helps us to lobby over the many issues confronting us in our respective businesses jointly and helps to present a stronger voice to Government, Councils and Tourism bodies.

Members are kept constantly kept informed of any new government regulations, and topical events affecting the industry. There are also very close links with the local Town Council and their Tourism Committee, with joint advertising projects and liaison for the promotion of the town and surrounding area.

Being a member also provides a priority listing in the official Sidmouth accommodation list.

Our Ethos

We are very keen that our members should offer a quality product, maintain high standards of customer care and service and of course offer good value for money. We aim t o ensure standards and require our members, where applicable, to comply with all Statutory Obligations and Legal Requirements placed upon them by Law and to act in a professional manner

You will see that Sidmouth has a very long holiday season, many hotels and guesthouses now open throughout the year with several also offering a Christmas Package. Self-catering accommodation is usually available all year around.

We do hope you will enjoy coming to our lovely Regency Britain in Bloom prize-winning town, amidst the wonderful World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

We are confident that all of our members will do their best to help you enjoy your stay with us.
